Copper Care Guide

COPPER CARE GUIDE
Caring for Your Copper Life Products
Pure copper is a living material. With proper care, your Copper Life drinkware will last for decades and develop a beautiful natural patina that adds character and authenticity. This guide will help you keep your copper looking and functioning at its best.
DAILY CARE — AFTER EACH USE
1. Rinse with warm water
2. Use a soft cloth to dry thoroughly (don't air dry — water spots can cause oxidation)
3. Store in a dry place
Avoid leaving water sitting in your copper bottle for more than 8–10 hours unless you are intentionally "conditioning" the water (see section below).
WEEKLY DEEP CLEANING — RESTORE THE SHINE
Copper naturally develops a patina over time. To restore the original shine, clean weekly using one of these natural methods:
Method 1: Lemon & Salt
- Cut a fresh lemon in half
- Sprinkle table salt on the cut side
- Gently rub the salted lemon over the inside and outside of your copper item
- Rinse thoroughly with warm water and dry immediately
Method 2: Vinegar & Salt
- Mix 1 tablespoon white vinegar with 1 teaspoon salt
- Apply to a soft cloth and gently rub the copper
- Rinse thoroughly with warm water and dry immediately
Method 3: Lemon Juice Paste
- Mix lemon juice with baking soda to form a thin paste
- Gently rub onto copper using a soft cloth
- Rinse and dry
PROPER STORAGE
- Store copper in a dry place at room temperature
- Avoid storing while damp (causes water spots and patina)
- Keep away from direct sunlight for extended periods
- Don't store with other metals touching the copper (causes reactions)
- Use the original branded gift box for long-term storage if not in daily use
WHAT TO AVOID
To preserve the quality and finish of your copper:
❌ Dishwashers — damages the finish permanently
❌ Steel wool, scouring pads, or abrasive scrubbers — scratches copper
❌ Harsh chemical detergents or bleach
❌ Storing highly acidic drinks (orange juice, vinegar, soda) for extended periods — causes excessive copper leaching
❌ Microwave use — copper is not microwave-safe
❌ Open flames or stovetops — copper conducts heat very quickly
UNDERSTANDING THE NATURAL PATINA
Over time, copper naturally develops a patina — small dark spots, a slight darkening, or even greenish-blue oxidation. This is:
✓ Completely normal and harmless
✓ Food-safe and non-toxic
✓ A sign that your copper is authentic (counterfeit "copper" products are coated and don't develop patina)
✓ Considered desirable in antique copper for its character
You have two options:
- Embrace it — let the patina develop naturally for an aged, artisanal look
- Polish it — clean weekly to maintain the original shine
The choice is yours. Either way, your copper remains 100% safe and functional.
HOW TO CONDITION WATER IN YOUR COPPER BOTTLE
For maximum wellness benefit, follow this traditional Ayurvedic practice:
1. In the evening, fill your clean copper bottle with filtered or fresh water
2. Cap and let sit at room temperature for 6–8 hours (overnight is ideal)
3. In the morning, drink the water first thing — before food, coffee, or other beverages
4. Empty, rinse, and refill as needed throughout the day
This allows the water to absorb trace amounts of copper, believed to support digestion, immunity, and overall wellness. Aim to drink 2–3 glasses of copper-conditioned water per day, not more — moderation is key.
TROUBLESHOOTING
The inside of my bottle has a black coating.
This is normal oxidation. Clean using the lemon & salt method above.
There's a strange taste from new copper.
Brand new copper sometimes has a slight metallic taste. Wash thoroughly with lemon & salt for the first 2–3 uses; the taste will fade.
My bottle is leaking from the threads.
Check that the cap is properly aligned. If a leak persists after correct alignment, contact us at support@copperlifestore.com — we'll make it right under our 30-day satisfaction guarantee.
Green spots appeared on my copper.
This is copper carbonate, a harmless natural oxidation. Clean with lemon & salt to remove if desired, but the spots themselves are food-safe.
WHO SHOULD NOT USE COPPER DRINKWARE
While copper drinkware is safe for most adults, please consult a healthcare provider before regular use if you have:
- Wilson's disease (a copper metabolism disorder)
- Severe liver conditions
- Known copper sensitivity or allergy
- If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have an infant
Healthy adults should aim for approximately 0.9 mg of copper daily (the U.S. RDA). Drinking copper-conditioned water in moderation falls well within safe limits.
